Sunday, December 6~art + food at Manakintowne

invitational art show and local food tasting

                                                                                                                   Lisa Nye

We had a great turnout to see the art work of Lisa Nye, Heidi Lersch, Sarah Masters,

Lisa Goodwyn, Erin Richardson, Garth Swanson, Sue McCoy, Wes Mears, Patsy Jewett,

the multitalented Archer family, and more.

And thanks to Pete Markham, Annie Chalkley of Pfoods, Art Ganger, Becky Lillywhite,

and friends for the soul satisfying winter comestibles and warm beverages:

beet and apple galettes, Thanksgiving soup, chive biscuits, pickled pumpkin,

homemade onion dip, veggie risotto squares, rosemary tea bread, shortbreads,

apple cider and a variety of teas.

Thank you

all who came with donations and food for the Central Virginia Food Bank.

We collected 15 grocery bags full!

Thursday, December 3~Wendell Berry's visit to Charlottesville

Listen to a podcast of the lecture: "Simple Solutions, Package Deals and a 50 Year Farm Bill"

                                                                                             What an amazing evening.

Overflow crowds turned out to hear this farmer/poet/essayist/prophet at the University of Virginia.

Thank you, Tomas, for including our chicories, Padron peppers and us in the

post lecture gathering and dinner at Mas .

Mr. Berry's work should be at the top of your winter reading list if you are

a  human being interested in life on, in and with the earth. Pass it on...

Look for Manakintowne to be profiled on America's Heartland, a nationally syndicated farm show on PBS.

Shooting took place here at the farm and around town on August 6.

The show is set to air on a Sunday afternoon in early winter.

September 19-Pete presented at the Virginia Center for Architecture one-day symposium,
Green Your Scene, on going green around the house.

                                                                 New barn and office up!

We are so excited about our new work space.  In addition to giving us a clean, cool, well-lighted

place to prepare orders for delivery, it houses our office, seed saving space and farm library,

freeing up space in the farm kitchen and existing barn for new projects.

                                                                                                              We're in!

Thank you Powhatan Farm Bureau!

Jo was recently honored by the Powhatan Farm Bureau as their

nominee for Virginia Farm Woman of the Year

Read what they have to say about Manakintowne, local produce and you in Cultivate magazine.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the Powhatan Agri-Entrepreneurship Tour on

September 13. The tour was a huge success, thanks to a well co-ordinated effort

by the Powhatan Farm Bureau, Powhatan's Department of Economic Development,

Powhatan Tomorrow, and the Powhatan Chamber of Commerce.  Thanks, too,

to Chef William Robertson for serving up some tasty garden treats, and to

Sarah Masters, Heidi Lersch and Patsy Jewett for their wonderful "farm art" show.

It was great to see so many people interested in farming on small  acreage,

and in showing their kids where food comes from!

Members of the Richmond Culinary Guild enjoyed a beautiful day for their

October 15 meeting at Manakintowne, featuring a farm tour, charcuterie demonstration, and a hearty fall lunch with Tanya Cauthen of  Belmont Butchery and our own Peter Markham.
